What limitations are there on the purchased images?
At Copyrightfreeimages.com we want you to get the maximum versatility from your purchase. Although a key benefit is its unlimited lifetime use, there are some limitations to image usage and to this end we ask that you read our Terms and Conditions before purchase. If you have any questions about us, or our images, please contact us at Technical@copyrightfreeimages.com
How can I find out more information about specific images?
Due to limitations on our web pages, we can only give a short description with each image. If you require more detailed information regarding a specific image, please contact us at Sales@copyrightfreeimages.com with the image reference and type of information required. Please note that images are offered purely for pictorial content.
Why the different file sizes?
File sizes are based on the format of the original image and are approximate only. The original images have been taken on 6x7cm, 6x6cm, 6x4.5cm and 35mm slide film. Some Screen Saver images are from digital sources. Selection for final use should be based on pixel count.
The higher the resolution, the higher the quality of the final print. For onscreen use resolution is usually 72 dpi (dots per inch, sometimes referred to as ppi - pixels per inch). Photographic resolution is generally regarded to be between 150 and 300 dpi, depending on printing processes used and final application.
How large can I print a digital image?
For photographic quality the recommended image size is based on a resolution of 180 to 300 dpi. Image size and resolution is determined by end use. e.g. A 20mb file (3200 x 2100 pixels) would be suitable for billboard images due to viewing distance. Suitability for final use rests with the purchaser. For further information and guidance please contact Technical@copyrightfreeimages.com.
How does the image coding work?
File coding is based on three segments. The first is the subject, the second is the file number, and the third segment is a reference to the original format in which the photograph was taken. The formats used are 35mm, 6x4.5cm, 6x6cm and 6x7cm. These are represented as 35, 645, 66 and 67 in the file coding.
Can I acquire originals?
At present copyrightfreeimages.com does not supply originals online. Please direct any queries regarding original materials to Sales@copyrightfreeimages.com
How are the images supplied?
Images are supplied on CD in both Tiff and Jpeg format. Tiff has been chosen because it maintains maximum picture quality at the expense of a large file size. This is one reason why we don't currently offer an 'e-mail' service as standard. We also supply the same image in a low compression Jpeg format to enable ease of use with some types of equipment. Images can be e-mailed on request, in jpeg format. Medium format images are scanned with an Epson Perfection 2450 Photo scanner. Maximum scan resolution is 2400 dpi for source material. 35mm images are scanned on a Canon FS400US film scanner. Maximum scan resolution is 4000 dpi for source material.
What do I see on-screen?
Images are displayed onscreen in a thumbnail format, in subject groups. Each image will link to an enlarged, watermarked version that may be downloaded, for comping purposes.
Have the images been enhanced or manipulated?
The images as seen on-screen have been optimised in colour, brightness and contrast, for viewing on a monitor. Because of the different properties of individual monitors, colour, brightness and contrast values may vary. Images supplied in digital format will be optimised to a similar level. Dust and other minor imperfections generated during scanning will be corrected before burning onto disc. In very few circumstances, visual imperfections (power-lines in a landscape, for example) have been removed or disguised. The latter is only done when the visual quality of the image is impaired. Unaltered images may be requested.
What does 'copyright free' mean?
Once purchased, images may be used as many times as required and for almost any purpose. (Pornographic, libelous, defamatory or other unlawful uses, reselling, relabeling, and remerchandising original files is prohibited.) If you are concerned about any intended use of an image, then please contact Sales@copyrightfreeimages.com and we will be pleased to answer any questions or queries.
